Five years ago, a large meteor crashed in central New York. No one knows how the government didn't know. They didn't see how they couldn't. The thing took up a whole city block. Dust and debris everywhere, people screaming, crying, looking for loved ones. A lot of people had died...others suffered severe injuries. Some even got extremely sick, though no one knew how or why.
A year after, people began getting extremely sick. No one knew what the cause of this illness was. Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to figure it out. Many stayed in the hospital for months, others it was less. And some...never made it out. Those that did began to experience anomalies around themselves. Though that was always true. Even some that got sick never experienced anything at all.
Now, children and adult alike are being hunted for their abilities. G.A.M.A is searching for a "cure-all" to "save" those unfortunate to suffer from this change to their DNA. The meteor is contained under a dome of re-enforced frosted glass.

Danni smiled to herself and clutched her newly signed book to her chest. Today had been a great day, one of the best really. Her parents had let her go to the book signing alone, something they rarely ever did. She was sure that it was majorly because they didn't want to stand in the line. And then, she had gotten her book Alanna signed. She did a little happy dance thinking about it. This truly was a good day.
The sun peaked out from behind the dissipating clouds making it feel warmer. Danni glanced up at it. That wasn't me, was it She knew logically it wasn't she would have had to put a lot of energy behind something like that, she'd tried before and given herself a headache for hours afterwards. But it still made her nervous. She wasn't sure what would happen if anyone found out about her... ability. She hadn't even told her parents. One of the few secrets she kept from them.
She squeezed her book tighter. If Alanna could go through knight training while keeping a huge secret, Danni could go through high school. She smiled, and no one was trying to kill her along the way, she was already a step ahead.

The sun began to peek from behind the clouds, but the nice bright rays brought a damper on this young man’s day. He sat with his short hair spiked, nice suit jacket carefully creased, jeans skinny, and converse tight. His blue eyes watched as people came and went. Hearing something behind him he sighed. ‘Finally,’ Daniel thought. “Took you long enough.” He uttered quietly. “Yeah, well it isn’t getting out undetected.” The figure smarted back.
“I knew you could do it though. Can’t trust anyone else.” The person scoffed as they sat on the bench behind Daniel. “So, plans?” He asked, his hands clasping together as if he were doing a silent prayer. Really he was just thinking, and trying to keep everyone else’s minds out of his own. Most days were easier than others. “I don’t feel good about this.”
“I didn’t ask about your feelings about it. I asked for the plans so spill it...or do you want to end up like my last informant?” His tone grew cold, calm. The tension rose some as the person stiffened in their seat. “Okay, okay...suit yourself. I just didn’t have any part of this…” The figure pulled out papers and passed them over their shoulder. Grabbing them Daniel would look and begin reading. He knew someone that could memorize the entirety of these pages. He’d just have to convince her to come back to do that.
“You’ve done me proud. Glad an adult is so willing to help a “child in need.” Daniel mocked. “Can I go now?” Sighing Daniel gave a classic teenage groan before giving the word. “And say hi to the kids for me. I’ll be over to tutor them later this coming week if they still need it.” The man grumbled as he stood up and began walking away. Folding the papers he placed them in the inside pocket of his jacket before getting up. His head was still up when he went to turn, but before he could really take a few steps, something...no, someone ran into him.
Looking down, he picked up the book that laid on the ground before helping the girl up. She looked familiar, but he couldn’t quite remember her name. “Hey, sorry about that. You okay?”

Person.
She barely had time to register that she was getting ready to run into someone before she plopped backwards onto the ground. Oh man, she should have been paying attention. She took the help to get up and looked at her helper.
"Oh! Thank you for helping me. Daniel right?" She blushed, she knew his name; pretty much every girl in her grade had asked him out at some point, but she didn't want to seem creepy. Her eyes darted to her book in his hands. Clean, safe, great!
Her eyes went back to his face. She had been meaning to talk to him at some point soon, now she finally had her chance if he wasn't busy.

Daniel gave a little smirk. So she knew him, and most likely from school. He wasn't a big fan of using his powers on people. Though it helped with intimidation. But this girl hadn't done anything to warrant intimidation. "Yeah, and you're Danni. Worlds cutest cheerleader." He said. What? So he did use it sometimes to get what he wanted from some of the high school girls. He was a player most of the time. Getting those girls hopes up and dashing them away.
He'd had so many relationships he couldn't count them on just his hands anymore. Though maybe they were more flings than anything. Looking at the book in his hand, he had a curious look on his face. "Hm, never heard of this book before." Looking at the back he read it over before handing it back to Danni. "Didn't take you much for a fantasy book fan."
Cutest huh? Take that Julie, you stuck up bitch. She grinned at the compliment and stood a little straighter. This was going better than it did for most girls at school.
"Hm, never heard of this book before." He flipped it over and scanned the back before holding it out to her "Didn't take you much for a fantasy book fan."
She reached out for her book, her new prized possession "Oh, yeah I got really into them when I was in the hospital a few years ago. This one is actually my favorite." She reached up and touched her pendant, custom made to look like she imagined the one in the book. Few good things came out of being that sick, a few series she loved in exchange for months of testing still didn't seem fair. "I just got it signed today, stood in line for 3 hours to meet the author." She lowered her face to look up at him through her lashes. "Though maybe we could keep that between us?"
Truth was she didn't care if anyone knew she liked to read, but maybe having a secret they shared could help them be friends. Like Alanna and Jon. She blushed a little, maybe not EXACTLY like them.

Seeing her reach towards the pendant, he kept mental note of it. Maybe he could use it for later on. "So, you'd been sick too. But at least it seems you found something good out of that." He motioned towards the book. "Three hours? Geez, I don't think I could've been that patient." He chuckled some.
"A very dedicated fan." When she mentioned keeping it a secret he smirked. "A secret huh?" He acted as if he was thinking about it and leaned in close to her ear. "I think I can do that." His voice had dropped an octave, making it deeper for a moment. He knew most of the girls loved it when that happened. His lips just grazing against the lobe before pulling away.
His light eyes looked her up and down. Maybe she'd be his newest conquest to keep him distracted for now. "You feeling hungry? I bet waiting that long gave you a little appetite."
A chill went down her spine when he whispered in her ear. She took a deep breath to calm herself. If she got wrapped up she'd forget what she wanted to say later on.
"I was actually going to go meet my parents for lunch, they're out with friends," She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, "Though I guess if you didn't have anything to do I could let them know I was hanging out with a friend from school. Their friends only ever talk about politics anyway." She shrugged trying to keep a casual air about herself. She knew from experience and some of her mom's old magazines that acting excited made boys loose interest.
She grinned at him, "But if you had other plans then I guess I'll see you at school Monday." She wanted him to admit that he wanted to hang out with her.

A smirk showed on his face. She wanted to play games. He could definitely go with that. "Oh, that hurts." He placed a hand over his heart acting as if he'd been stabbed. "You don't think I'd want to hang out with you? I might be a player, but I'm not that terrible." Okay, maybe that was a lie.
He was terrible with telling the truth most of the time. Though he absolutely hated liars. Hypocrite. "How about you let your parents know we're going to the zoo? This is usually the best time to go there. Not a whole lot of tourists and locals clogging it up." He held out his arm for Danni to take hold of like a gentleman waiting for his lady.
It was the next place on his list to head to. Another informant was supposed to be there in an hour. He just needed another cover other than being a kid on his own. He hated being treated like a kid...plus, around this time G.A.M.A agents would be changing guard. Leaving the scanning to the ticket clerks. "Why don't you tell me a little more about yourself?"
"Who said anything about you being terrible?" She asked with a smirk, "I just said you might be busy. But if you're not, the zoo DOES sound nice."
She walked past his offered arm and pulled her cell phone out. It only rang twice before being answered. "Daddy, I ran into a friend from school. Do you mind if I hang out while you and Mama do lunch?" She smiled as he answered her, "Thank you! You guys have fun, tell Mr. and Mrs. Greer I said hello. Bye!"
She turned back to face Daniel, walking backwards. "Now about myself... You already know about my secret love of fantasy novels. And you already know I'm a cheerleader, obviously. What? Do you want to know my favorite color? Or animal?" She thought of the most cliche questions should could have, teasing him. She knew his reputation, everyone did.
Tatum looked up to the sky, the sun was coming out of the clouds and causing the temperature to rise. "hopefully it stays warm." she thought to herself. Tatum wrapped her jacket tighter around herself as if trying to trap the warmth to her body. taking out her phone she plugged her headphones and turned on her music. She smiled as I hate everything about you began to play in the background. Looking around the central park she took in her surroundings. An old couple sitting on a bench holding hands, A man playing fetch with his dog, she stopped when she came to a mother holding her little girl while reading a book to her. It made her heartache as she thought of her mother.
"Don't cry over spilled milk Tatum." her mother used to say, "just because something seems bad doesn't mean something good can't come from it." Tatum frowned at the memory. "what good comes from you being gone, mother." Tatum looked down as the thought crossed her mind, she felt her throat right where her voice box was. "I guess something came from it," she whispered in her mother's voice before closing her eyes and sealing the voice away for another time.
As Tatum continued her walk she looked over at a young, what looked like a couple talking in the park. They looked like total opposites, the girl was smiley and clutched a book to her chest whereas the boy screamed of mischief and bad decisions. She smiled at them, hoping that they might have a better ending.

He was a bit taken aback when she walked past his extended arm. Girls usually went gah-gah for that. Being treated like a lady in a fantasy. But Danni...she was turning out to be something different. It intrigued him. Though his face showed the surprise he felt.
He corrected himself and cleared his throat to keep from blushing and thinking on it more. He wanted to probe her mind more, but that could be dangerous. He didn't know if someone, or even if Danni had mutant powers that could detect him. Plus he already had G.A.M.A. on his organizations' ass for some stupid ass idiots pretending to be them. More of his allies have been going missing and he needed more information before making a move.
Though his eyes fell on the bright red hair ahead of them. Their eyes met for a moment before he winked at her and turning his attention back to Danni. His telepathy reached out to be met with a strange sensation. She was a mutant... he could use that. 'I see you there...' He sent into her mind. He wasn't meaning to come off as creepy, but he didn't exactly know how to get her attention without possibly getting yelled at. Some girls were just so...sensitive about him talking to other women. Even if he didn't know them. Then again his reputation around the school wasn't the best.
"Well, I guess I do know that, but nah. Those are shallow questions. I wanna know your favorite flower, maybe favorite places to eat." He smirked some.
Danni bit her cheek. Did he just wink at something? She resisted the urge to turn an look. It was none of her business really, they'd only spoken for like what 5 minutes. Even if it did bother her.
She shoved that down and focused on his questions. "Oooo those are interesting questions. Let me think." She paused stopping her walking for a moment. "Flowers. Probably Marigolds." She giggled a little, her mind wondering.
She turned around. Oh, There was an older girl over there looking towards them. That was probably what, no who, Daniel had winked at. She put her smile back on her face as she spun back around. "Restaurants, that's harder. I love Sushi, and Italian, and steak. But then there's always a good burger." Maybe if she kept thinking of food she'd push down the budding jealousy in her chest. God that girl was so pretty, she looked so cool. Danni probably looks like a little girl compared to someone like that. "Pizza... Ice Cream. Food in general"
When Tatum saw him look at her she was confused, and the wink made her roll her eyes. However, when she heard his voice in her head she stopped and stared directly at him. "so he's a mutant...why make himself known to me unless...he knows." Tatum swallowed what felt like throw up and took a deep breath, "okay...how do I deal with this?"
When she saw the girl look her way she tried to smile but realized that might be creepy. "just look away." she thought to herself before doing just that. She looked down at her phone before looking up and still seeing them. deciding to play into the boy's game she closed her eyes and thought about how he sounded when he spoke and then walked up to them and passed them. Tatum made sure to bump his shoulder before apologizing. "sorry." she mumbled it quickly but loud enough to get his attention and kept walking not even stopping to see how he reacted to hearing his voice come out of her mouth.
Lila woke up with a scream. She looked around and saw that she was in her shitty tiny little studio apartment. Groaning, she reached over and grabbed her phone. the screen was so cracked it was chipping off at the corners. turning it on she saw it was a little past 1:00 pm. "god did I sleep for that long?" she whispers to herself in shock. "fuck." Lila stretches and climbs off her mattress that rests on the floor.
Lila looks out the window and watches the business down below. Sighing she scratches the back of her head and walks to the bathroom. After taking care of business she slips her underwear and tank top off climbing into the shower. Letting the water run down her back she sits there. Looking around her small stand shower she begins to wash. Washing off the smell of last night. the looks from the pervs wishing they could take her to bed. she feels something hit her feet and looks down to see the stupid bear loofa that Jamie got her.
"hehe look pooh, it's adorable." Jamie laughed in the store while holding the loofa up for Lila to see. "Piglet please no." Lila chuckled in mock horror. "oh come on, please? It's beautiful." Jamie looked at Lila with her secret weapon, the puppy dog eyes. "Nooo, Jamie baby please, you know I can't resist," Lila begs but she already knows she's lost. "Ugh fine." Jamie smiles and jumps in delight before kissing Lila lightly, "you love me." Lila hugs her close and kisses her "of course Piglet, forever."
blinking away the tears, Lila gets out of the shower and walks back to her living room/bedroom/kitchen. Not even caring about her nakedness, she just simply slides her undergarments on. After slipping her black jeans and belt on she grabs a green day shirt and a hoodie. Slipping her shoes one she grabs her phone, wallet, and keys before turning and leaving the shitty apartment and heading for Hers and Jamie's favorite coffee shop near central park.
